This is the last photo I took in 2015.

I thought I was taking a photo of a yellow room lit by very yellow fluorescent lights. The Instax 210 saw something completely different. The room is shadowy and gray. Indistinct.

This is the first photo I took in 2016.

I thought I was taking a photo of a bright blue house next to a bright green house. Instead it’s more of a photo of early morning darkness, white trim, and a white plastic chair at the bottom of the frame.

Neither one was what I was expecting.

It’s a new year.
